II. POST WORLD WAR II EMIGRATION AND SERVICES TO
AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND
A. NETHERLANDS GOVERNMENT ARRANGED EMIGRATION
In
1947, the Netherlands Government purchased three Victory ships
which had been completed as
troop transports to transport troops to
the Netherlands East Indies. In 1951, they
were refitted to transport
emigrants to Ausrtralia, Canada, New Zealand and the United
States.
The three ships were the Groote Beer (Great Bear), Zuiderkruis
(Southern Cross) and Waterman (Aquarius).
